The Lilac (Syringa vulgaris) is in bloom in the LipsYard. It's sweet fragrance rides on the breeze.
But there's something wrong with the shrub. It's only leafing out and blooming near the top of the branches. We've got a call into our landscape guy, Gary. He'll know what to do. It still smells nice, though.
Not smelling as sweet is the stink of Guantanamo. Condoleezza Rice, our Secretary of State, rejected allegations that terror detainees held there are being abused. She went on to deny any claim of human rights abuses at Guantanmo, although she reiterated the Bush administration's desire to close the detention facility as soon as possible. Her comments came a day after Iceland's parliament adopted a resolution condemning abuses at Guantanamo and calling for its immediate closure.
I can hardly wait until a new administration begins to re-integrate the USA back into the civilized world community.
